What is GiffyView?
You can use GiffyView 1.0 to preview or display animated GIF files before you post them on your Web site or Corporate Intranet. We've been asking our development team to create a way to preview a number of animated GIF files, and they created GiffyView 1.0 to answer our web design needs. The feature set is not yet complete, but it does allow the art department and WebMaster to quickly view all our animated GIFs at various data rates to give us some basic statistics and to test that the animations look all right. This information helps us to decide if the animated GIF is the right size, before we make it available on our web site. It is a handy little tool, and gives great feedback to make sure that all web visitors can view our animated GIFS without too much delay.
GiffyView is an animated GIF previewer for displaying basic information about GIF89a files such as:
- transfer rate (baud rate or speed of transfer for data)
- percentage of animated GIF file loaded
- frame count of animated GIF file
- frame delay in hundreds of seconds for each frame of the animated GIF
- Bytes displayed and total bytes of the animated GIF file
- Elapsed time of display for the animated GIF from the time you press Load Now
- Estimated Remaining Time to display the animated GIF file
- Animated GIF file images (frames of the animation)
The Art department at Totally Hip has asked for many more features such as:
- more transfer rates 9600 bps
- load more than one animated GIF into one document and get stats on all the animation files.
Currently GiffyView can load as many animated GIFs in separate documents as there is available RAM, but we want the animations to be in one document window to simulate a web page.
- set the server load (from very little to full load with many visitors)
- ability to print out the statistics to screen, disk file or the printer
- number of colors used
- color palette optimization
- set the URL tag (IMAGE tag)
- batch file import (load in a whole folder and go for lunch) come back and the file stats are done
- Edit button to switch to WebPainter to edit the file and make changes
- change bit depths and color palettes from within GiffyView
- controller to advance frames of Animated GIF file images (frames of the animation)
- load in a web page with text etc, GIF files and the animated GIFs and give the complete stats

A. Installation Files
This version of the GiffyView stuffit file contains the following files:
- The GiffyView 1.0 application (for 68K or PowerPC)
- A "Animated GIF" folder, containing four Clip Animations or Animated GIFs

- This Read Me file
B. Hard Disk Space Needed During Installation
You will need about 850K of hard disk space for GiffyView 1.0b1 and the sample animated GIF files.
C. Power Macintosh vs. 680x0 Installation
GiffyView is Fat Binary and will run on PowerMac and Mac68K machines with at least a 68030.

GiffyView is really simple to use.
1. Load an animated GIF file.
2. Set the data rate or transfer rate to 14.4, 28.8kbps or ISDN.
3. Click the Load Now button.
4. View the results and adjust your animation to fit your needs by editing it with WebPainter or any other GIF building tool.
Of course we recommend WebPainter, the "Super GIFBuilder Tool" which has been given 4.5 out of 5 in a MacUser review and 4 out of 5 in a MacWeek review.

This Freeware version is made available free of charge and contains 4 sample animated GIF files to test out GiffyView 1.0b1.
